Infocube Creation Step 1 using SAP BI 7.0

SAP has come up with enhanced functionalities for businesswarehousing. The new functionalities are part of SAP Business Intelligence 7.0 (SAP BI 7.0).

There are some differences in SAP BI 7.0 while creating objects. We will see how to create InfoCube and other related Objects in SAP BI 7.0.

Infocube uses concept of star schema. Infocube is created using Characteristics and Key Figures.

Characteristics are levels on which reporting has to be performed. For example, Product, Customer and Plant.

Key Figures are measures used for characteristics. For example, sales quantity for a product, customer and location combination.

In this section we will discuss InfoArea and InfoObject Catalog creation steps in SAP BI 7.0.

1) Logon to SAP and Execute transaction RSA1, shown below is the left hand side panel

2) Select the InfoProvider at right hand side panel and select 'Create InfoArea;

3) Enter name and description for InfoArea
4) Go to InfoObjects at left hand panel, select the InfoArea created and right click to create 'InfoObject Catalog'

5) Create InfoObject Catalog for Characteristics and Key Figures

6) Select the InfoObjects for InfoObject Catalog as shown below
7) Enter the InfoObjects and select 'Continue'

8) Activate the InfoObject Catalog
9) InfoObject Catalog is created as shown below

In next section, we will see how to create InfoCube in SAP BI 7.0

10) Select the InfoArea and right click, select 'Create InfoCube'

11) Enter name and description of the InfoCube and press 'Create'

12) The screen is very different from SAP BW 3.5, the screen is similar to ODS creation screen in SAP BW 3.5. There are folders available for Dimensions, Navigation Attributes and Key Figures
Right click 'Dimension 1' to assign a characteristics to Dimension 1

In the next section, we will see how to create Data Transfer Process and load data in InfoCube
13) Enter the characteristics and press 'Continue'

14) To create new dimensions, right click 'Dimensions' folder and press 'Create New Dimensions'

15) Press 'Continue' button to create new dimension or press 'Create' to create more than one dimension at a time

16) Select 'Time' dimension and right click to add time characteristics '0CALMONTH'

17) Similarly, add Key Figure to 'Key Figure' folder by right clicking
18) Check the InfoCube for any inconsistencies and activate theInfoCube

19) InfoCube will be created as shown

In the next section we will see how to create Transformation betweenInfoCube and DataSource

20) Replicate the data source, select the source system, right click and select 'Replicate DataSources'

21) Select the data source as RSDS DataSource

22) Select the InfoCube and right click to 'Create Transformation'

23) Select Source and Target for Transformation

24) System will propose the mapping, incase system does not propose, select the InfoObject and drop for mapping

25) For 0CALMONTH, a constant will be used in this case, define the constant

26) After defining, press 'Transfer Values'

27) Check and activate the transformation

28) Now define, Data Transfer Process as shown

29) Enter the source of DTP

32) Execute the InfoPackage to load data into PSA

33) Check the data load in PSA by double clicking the DataSource

34) Execute the DTP

Step by Step guide on BADI with Filter implementation

Step 1 à Before implementing filter objects to a BADI. We need to deactivate all the implementation for that BADI. Go to SE18 (BADI definition) and from there navigate to all BADI implementation to view all the active implementations for that BADI Select the BADI implementations listed on the screen and deactivate the implementation. Once done, return back to the initial screen of SE18 and proceed with next step. Step 2 à go to SE18 – BADI Definition screen and change the existing BADI definition that we created in the earlier tutorial.   Select the FILTER –DEPENDENT check box under the TYPE section. This will open up the FILTER TYPE field for inputs. And do an F1 on the FILTER TYPE field. Click on the F4 on the FILTER TYPE field name and enter some search criteria to find a relevant data element. And click on the continue button   Select the data element from the list to set up your filter and hit enter. Click on the save button and act

Responsibilities of BW Data Architect

Responsibilities of an implementation project... For ex, Lets say If its a fresh implementation of BI or for that matter you are implementing SAP... First and foremost will be your requirements gathering from the client. Depending upon the requirements you will creat a business blueprint of the project which is the entire process from the start to the end of an implementation... After the blue print phase sign off we start off with the realization phase where the actual development happens... In our example after installing the necessary softwares, patches for BI we need to discuss with the end users who are going to use the system for inputs like how they want a report to look like and what are the Key Performance Indicators(KPI) for the reports etc., basically its a question and answer session with the business users... After collecting those informations the development happens in the development servers... After the development comes to an end the same objects are tested in quality
